Good to Know: FAQs About Dual Study Programs

Students pay the semester fee to the university. GLS then reimburses the students for these costs.

Enrollment begins in early May. You have until the end of September to enroll at the university.

After successfully enrolling, you can apply for a room in the student dormitories. Alternatively, you can search for apartments or shared apartments on housing portals.

Most students rent the same apartment continuously throughout the three years of their program.

No, you are responsible for paying for your own housing during the theoretical phase.

Yes, you receive your salary continuously throughout both the practical and theoretical phases.

If you have questions about enrollment, please contact the university’s Student Affairs Office or your point of contact at GLS.

Class schedules vary by semester. Lectures are generally held Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. All students have classes only until 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. There may be one day off per week, but this is not always the case.

In the dual study programs, class sizes range from 20 to 30 students.

You can retake the exam right away the following semester.

For some modules, it makes sense to attend the lecture again before taking the makeup exam. This takes place one year later.

As a general rule, make-up exams should not be postponed for too long, as this can jeopardize timely graduation.

Most professors and instructors are currently employed or have previously worked in companies. This allows them to impart a great deal of practical knowledge and illustrate it with real-world examples.

GLS strives to incorporate the theoretical content learned into the practical phases. Depending on your interests and department, this is often possible, though not always.

You’re guaranteed to gain new insights from every theoretical and practical phase.

The last week of the theoretical phase is reserved exclusively for exams. Lectures end the week before – or even earlier – and review sessions and preparation opportunities are offered.

During exam week, there is approximately one exam per day.
